Get ready to be amazed by Midjourney!
Midjourney can turn any picture, even your own selfies, into something straight out of your wildest dreams. We’re talking about surreal landscapes, mythical creatures, and epic visual effects that will leave your jaw on the floor.
It’s like having a magic wand for your photos!
The best part? It’s super easy to use! Today, I’m going to show you how to do it in 3 steps.
Note: This is a guide for those who are already familiar with Midjourney.
Step 1: Upload Your Photo
Start by uploading your photo into Midjourney. You can use any image — a landscape shot, a portrait, or even a selfie — the choice is yours!
You can upload your photo in 2 ways:
- Simply drag and drop the photo to Discord.
- Go to the MidJourney Bot section in Discord and click on the Upload File button.

After uploading the photo, click on the image and then right-click and select “Copy Image Address.”

Next, you’ll need to paste this link into the prompt area.
Step 2: Generate The Images
Once your photo is uploaded, it’s time to create the prompt. Midjourney Version 5 offers a wide array of tools and effects to customize your image. You can adjust colors, add filters, apply visual effects, and even create entirely new objects or scenes from scratch!
Adding style and parameters will determine the quality and appearance of the final image. After pasting the photo link, complete the prompt by adding details, style, and parameters using the formula below (you might not always need every single element of the formula).

For instance, I wanted the end result to look like an oil painting, so I simply added the words “oil painting” to my prompt.

Here are the images I got.

Step 3: Fine-tune Your Edits
The real magic happens when you fine-tune your edits. Midjourney Version 5 lets you get down to the nitty-gritty details and make precise adjustments to create the perfect look.
I opted for the third picture that Midjourney generated above and then remixed the prompt by adding some additional details (first you need to turn remix mode using the /settings
command)

Finally, I achieved the desired outcome with an oil painting style.

I also decided to experiment with a different artistic style using the same photo. I opted for a dripping art aesthetic style.

And here’s what I got:

I also tried the double exposure aesthetic.

And here’s what I got:

Bonus: Would you like to merge two photos? — No problem!
You can upload 2 photos and, merge them and even enhance the final result by adding additional details.
For the test below, I used one of my photos, and another image previously generated by Midjourney. I also added a few additional details.

I combined the two pictures, and then I just made some minor adjustments to obtain the merged photo in color.

I chose the second photo above and added just a couple of details (ultra-realistic photo and color).
And … I was very pleased with the results.

Get creative on your own photos by experimenting with different details and styles, and be prepared to be pleasantly surprised by the results!
