Research commissioned by Kelkoo and carried out by The Centre for Retail Research provides us with an estimate of likely mobile commerce sales for the UK in 2012.
The key findings of the report were:
- In 2011 8% of all online purchases were made via a smartphone. This was a total of £3bn (£192 per smartphone owner)
- There are now 24.6 million smartphones in use in the UK, approximately 41% of the population. So far about half of these smartphone users have used their phone to make a purchase
- Online purchases using a smartphone will increase this year by 53% as people become more familiar with the technology. This will mean a total of £4.5bn spent in 2012
